I've worn kilts SCA style, when I played SCA 10 yrs ago. But,this is different and much more important.
Any ideas?
From the Cape Fear River Valley, NC In answer to your question I would definitely start with a quality kilt in the tartan you will be wearing. The problem with rentals are that they are usual generic (universal) tartans, usually (from the weddings I have seen) either Black Watch or Stewart. If you construct it piece by piece, then the shock to the wallet will be somewhat easier to handle. I would recommend either a Black Argyle or Braemer jacket, as these can be moved up or down the formal scale by the addition of a vest, (5 button, less formal, 3 button more formal) tux shirt or dress shirt, etc, etc.

Lots of threads and posts about this.

Also early congratulations from a pair of 50 year veterans.
