Well alot of us are thinking alike. I have priced a jacket (argyle cut) in wool and that is for a later date ($450). I can buy an offical league jacket and have it modified. I am looking for Dress blue touser fabric to make a vest. MAC Newsome has St Andrews blue hose that look about perfect for this project.
The mess jacket is MCL standard but $300. I have seen several dress sporrans that will work well. The real question is the cumberbun. The league states gold but I would like go with a vest. What do you think?
Thanks again for all your comments to date. You all have been very helpful.

Hi ,
There used to be a marine pipers network that put uniforms together that would look great on non pipers as well.
If you go to cuillian craft .com the guy has different pics of the different uniforms.
I have one simple trick for the belt buckle on a kilt belt .
I took my military thistle pipers buckle drilled a hole in it and The Eagle, Globe ,and anchor right in the middle of the buckle and it's a dress blue head device so it screws into the back. I will never wear another buckle no matter how many bands i play in. Currently I play in 2 and am the only one that can break the uniform code with my buckle no one will say jack as they respect my time in the corps.
Hopefully you will check the site out and work off that . So Mote it Be Semper Fi

Your link listed doesn't seem to work (even when taking out the spaces)...

Okay-- I've just looked at the MCL website and the authorized uniforms available through their "ship's stores".
1) Red mess dress jacket: This is fine for kilt wear.
2) Gold, four button vest: This should also work for kilt wear.
3) Black dress shoes: Works fine with the kilt.
So, unless you want to ask HQ for permission for a different uniform for wear with the kilt, it looks to me as if 90% of everything you'd need/want for a kilted uniform is already authorized. In other words, all you need to have authorized is the Leatherneck or USMC traditional tartan kilt, a plain black leather sporran, the blue hose, and red flashes. Everything else is there, and off the shelf at Ship's Stores.
It's just a hunch, but I think you have a better chance of getting the kilt/sporran/hose/flashes authorized, rather than designing a whole new uniform for kilted MCL members, and trying to get that approved by HQ.
Either way, good luck Marine!

Though I hate the blazer, the Mess Dress jacket is appealing to me.

I think that the "standard" jacket is too long for kilt wear. What I am planning to do is get one tailored to the "argyle style" for day wear. Everything else is as you mentioned belt, sporran and hose will have to be approved. I think that when I show up at the next Dept of NC meeting I will be received well by the Membership.
I will be ordering the last item (St Andrew blue) hose on Friday from Matt.
I have 2 belts (black and brown) and flashes (red) already.
Thanks for all your help.
PS I WILL post pics when I have the parts assembled.

I can't wait to see the photos; we are all anxious to see how it turns out.
