    Andrewson,

I have have found that subtle green shirts work perfectly

These pictures (and a lot more) were posted in this thread where my lovely wife and I reviewed our new kilts from Steve Ashton at Freedom Kilts (a lot of people didn't notice my contributions as they were too taken by the F-H.C.A.G. in a "Pink Death Camo" mini.

    http://www.xmarksthescot.com/forum/e...443/index.html

I went with the Lewis purple hose and Lovat green traditional garter ties from the Scottish Tartans Museum because I thought they would work with either black or brown leather accessories.

I wouldn't personally wear IoS with a black shirt or hose because there is no black to pull out from the tartan and the black doesn't compliment / contrast with any of the tartan's colors.

Tan, oatmeal, brown, green, pale green, lavender, and of course purple seem the best choices to go with the lovely IoS.

    Cheers

    Jamie

Below are a few outfits I've worn all based on the Isle of Skye, I've had this kilt for close to two years now and it is still a favorite of mine. I think the trick is not trying to match the colours of the Isle of Skye as you say they are beautifully understated, rather what works for me is to compliment them instead.

    Thanks chaps!

Lots of ideas - and so quickly too!

I tend to agree with you, Jamie, that black is not really an option for the very reason you state. That was one of the reasons I did not think today's combination really worked. Of the combinations I have tried I preferred the green but I thought I had to wear a jacket to the Christmas Lunch I was attending today and I don't have a green jacket.

I can see from McMurdo's pictures that strong contrasts can work too but it is clear from you both that I will just to find some purple hose

    SCD Christmas Class

I have a CD by the Red Thistle Dancers which shows many of the individual steps and group dance basics. Very well done and very instructive.

They just put out a completely brand new version of volume one on DVD.

I wrote a review of it, should I post it in the dancers section?

    Cheers

Yes, it would be a good idea to post in the Scottish dancers section. For those new to the dance environment it is a good companion piece to lessons.

It is a Lindsay tartan skirt. AlanH found a length of the material (on E-Bay, I believe) and made several skirts out of it. Despite his "piggish" need to make it VERY short, I love this skirt and wear it every chance I get!

    Be well,

    The Purple Panache strikes again!!

It's always neat to read about you two's SCD adventures.
I tried to ask my inner curmudgeon before posting, but he sprayed me with the garden hose…
