    Holyrood tartan contest launched

    From the BBC:

A competition to design an official Scottish Parliament tartan has been launched to mark the 10th anniversary of devolution.

The contest is open to textile and design students across Scotland, who have until the end of January to submit their ideas.

The winning design will be added to Scotlands's official tartan register.
Looking forward to the final result!

Hopefully it will look better than the parliament building they meet in. And cost a whole lot less.

That place is an example of environmental pollution or architechural vandalism or something; and just across the way from both Holyroodhouse Palace and the Salisbury Crags, too. They could have had the grand old High School buildings on the hillside facing Waverley Station and the Castle, or even the old Assembly Rooms where the last Parliament met prior to the Union in 1707.

And to add gross insult to ocular injury, the only Gaelic in the place is on the bilingual signs in the tourist areas - Scottish Parliament/Pàrlamaid na h-Alba, Exit/A-mach, Cafe/Cafaidh - there's none inside in the areas for the bureaucrats and members.

As someone said recently: Gàidhlig: Can i no Caill i / Gaelic: Speak it or lose it.

I should think both of those points could be easily achieved!

Here's hoping it turns out that way. I'm hoping that we all get to see some of the submissions and not just the winner. That could be neat.

As far as learning to speak Gaelic I have talked to my wife about getting Rosetta Stone so that I could learn it. And since the kids are pretty young they could learn as well. (that was my selling point BTW)

    Hi,
Are you still in the Army?
If so, or you are affiliated with the Department of Defense, you can get access to Rosetta Stone for free.
They have welsh, but I don't remember if they have Gaelic

The contest is for a Scottish Parliament tartan.

There is a "Scottish Parliament" tartan that was designed in 1998 by Ronnie Hek.

Apparantly this was never approved by the Scottish Parliament, though it's not a bad looking tartan. I wonder if it will be submitted for consideration?
