What standard kilt item can you not do without?

On the flip slide of Alan H's post about which item do people dislike, I want to know which standard kilt item can you not do without?

I like having a sporran and don't feel that my outfit is complete without my sporran. Usually it's my brown freelander, but my dress sporran really finishes off the look I am hoping for when it comes to dressing up.

My first answer is, of course.. The kilt..

Ok, seriously.. I don't wear a kilt without a sporran. An 99% of the time, I cannot wear the kilt without a sgian dubh. I know that these are obvious answers, but those are the two items that I won't don the kilt without.

    The sporran.

I've been told that I have entirely too much gear that I haul around on a day to day basis, and the fact that kilts have no pockets make wearing a sporran essential for me.

And if I've got my hose hiked up, something to go in the top of the right one. A sgian dubh under normal circumstances. I've got a bottle opener that comes along when a 3" fixed blade would be ill advised. The 2.5" folder tucked behind my belt is a different story entirely though...just like AmEx...don't leave home without it

Sporran....with my X-Kilts (no pockets) I fake the sporran with a black Jansport bum bag hung on the front. You gotta have SOME-thing!

I must say as in the thread regarding hates, I can't wear the kilt without the hoses. I have seen pics here at the forum and other places of barefooted kilters, and I don't think it looks very macho.

Sporran, hands down. Since traditional kilts have no pockets, wearing a sporran is essential.

A belt is a must have with my UKs and other modern style kilts.

A sporran (preferrably one that is truly functional, a la Thorfinn, Freelander, Wyvern, etc.), hose, and a decent pair of shoes/boots.

Hmmm... I think I'll do better on the other thread since I see the hose, kilt, sporran, & belt as a package deal.

I only feel the need for a sporran if I leave the house, otherwise the only thing I feel I need is some kind of shirt. I generally only remove my shirt when I swim or do yard work and for neither of those would I be kilted.
