What standard kilt item to you just hate?

Would it make a difference to you if it were faux fur? Or is it just the idea/concept/look of it that you don't like?

I don't know.... I dislike fur for ethical/spiritual reasons (same reasons I am vegetarian). I'm torn with the idea of the fact that it is faux so no harm no foul, but at the same time I'm not sure I like the idea of promoting the style. This has been a tough one for me, with all other forms of dress fur isn't seen as mandatory like it is with dress sporrans.

I dislike tartan flashes.

I found the first pair I ever bought unceremoniously deposited on the bottom of a drawer, I wore them once but now wear solid colors. Didn't really think about "not preferring" them till I saw your post.

For me not so much the sporran as the sporran strap, which does its best to try to cut the front of my kilt apron in half just below my massive gut (which I call my "next of kin"). I am a full time convert to sporran hangers, although this adds the weight of my sporran to the front of my belt which sometimes also tends to drift south under the strain.

I too tend to use at least a small belt pouch for the comomon use things---change, folding money, credit cards, etc... to try to lighten the load on the sporran itself.

Lace Jabots and cuffs.

Dress shirts with pleats (Golfball or marcella fronted shirts are the way forward)

Anything plastic when it should be wood or leather or gem.

Prince Charlie style cuffs - the work of just idle tailors who can't be bothered to make proper gauntlet cuffs.

Base metal when it should be silver or gold (yes many would consider silver to be base metal.)

Don't want much and do realise that budgetary constraints may force some people (YT included) to compromise.

Oh and FLATCAPS - which are not standard or suitable wear for a kilt - but some people think they are GGRR!

I've always thought they had more the look of dancing pumps - I favour Buckle brogues for formal and plain brogues for informal though I do have a pair of Ghillies which I wear sometimes because they are comfortable.

Bit of stupid name too, as no sane ghillie would wear shoes with a hole in them when wandering about on the moors. (Before anyone mentions it I do know why they are called Ghillie brogues)

Sporrans. They look great, but when I'm driving or working at a dsk, they get in the way.

Well I just got my new sporran from Turpin .

Just to add to this: Turpin makes a solid length strap for the sporran that buckles at the back of the kilt. I tend to trade this strap onto all of my other sporrans, because the beauty of them is that when you sit, in a car of at work, you can slide the sporran to your side easily. I do this often, when at home on the computer.

A point of correction, Turpin does not make the strap (I was hopeful to get everything together). He uses and recommends Oconee Leather Works for straps and belts. I am hoping to get my order in with them soon. In the mean time I ordered a strap from Stillwater and it lets me slide the sporran around pretty easy and works, I just want a thicker strap with clasps to connect to the sporran.

I don't mind wearing them for black tie events, I admit; however, the laces will sometimes fall off my shins no matter how tight I tie. It must be my large leg muscles expanded and contracting - yes.
