What standard kilt item to you just hate?

I did just pick up a nice flatcap from my father in law's closet and I may try that out.

Boy, the more I read through this post the longer my list gets.

Sporrans are probably first in line - much prefer vests or kilt friendly jackets to put my stuff in.

Sporran chains...makes no sense to me at all to rub metal against wool.

Belts - that's what those kilt straps are for.

Sgian dubhs with cheap plastic "jewels" on the end of the handle.

Cheap solid color flashes glued to a cardboard-like backing attached to tournequet-like elastic garters.

Well thats a tough question should it be sporran chains? No not them, though they are high on the list, how about flashes, I mean I am so much happier with traditional garter ties, but still no, no I think my least favourite piece of kit would have to be ubiquitous White Hose. Nothing looks worse especially when there are so many other choices out there. So there you go White Hose number one, sporran chain number two on my list.

Oh dear! MODS might I suggest a sticky on the accessory thread with a brief summary of the arguments for and against the flat cap as a kilt accessory.

I don't really have a problem with torries, but why do so many people use red ones when they don't match the color scheme at all. I realize they are traditional in some uniforms, but I would rather they color compliments the outfit.

I'm not complaining: I thought it was a reasonable and amusing comment - which is why I repeated it. What I was concerned about was that you seemed to be suggesting that I meant something other than what I meant: All I was trying to do was explain what I meant.

It obviously upset you and I did not want other people being upset by something I did not say.

For me, wearing a kilt is about comfort and the fact that I like the look, plus I wear a family tartan so it's about the heritage. It feels normal, like just another outfit to wear. However, I feel and the wife agrees, that the headgear makes me feel like a reeinactor. [SEINFELD] Not that there's anything wrong with that [/SEINFELD], but I don't need to walk though the streets looking like I missed the highland games.

Sorry, but the hats just feel like costume to me

And maybe, just maybe...... I do fear the pom pom.
