Yet Another Balmoral Question...

Hello, fellow X-Markers!

I have another balmoral question. A kind piper from "down South" USA sent me a lovely, perfect condition balmoral (I'm sending him a red beret)

My question is this: Do you wear a cap badge on a balmoral? I put my MacArthur cap badge on it, but for some reason, it didn't seem to look right. It looks GREAT without the cap badge, but somehow a bit "off" with the cap badge on.

P.S. My band glengarry looks "right" with the cap badge, much better than without it...the balmoral seems to be the opposite.

Have I just gone completely insane? I hear teaching all teenage boys will do that to you!

I have had my clan badge on my balmoral since I bought it. Some pictures of balmoral's for sale show a badge, some do not. It seems most people that I have seen at highland games wear a badge. But, I certainly am no expert on highland dress. Other's I am sure will have more insight on this.

We normally wear a badge with our balmoral,I don't think it really matters. Only last week I, well my wife actually, took off my badge to clean it and when I was walking about with my badge less balmoral I had one or two questions of "lost your badge?". Actually that was rather nice of them as it is a rather special badge and they were only showing concern.

Jock, if I understand correctly, you and others in Scotland sometimes wear Balmorals when you are not wearing the kilt. Am I wrong about this?

Hello,
I always wear my Clan's (Cameron) badge on my Balmoral. It's a rather nice one too. It was specially made for me in solid silver. My sons sport the Clan badge as well on their Balmorals. My father wears his as well with the badge. Ever since I was a young lad that's how I've always seen it among my family and friends and I think everyone I've met actually. I don't think it looks out of place at all. We also wear our Clan's plant badge (oak) when in season behind the Clan crest badge. When I'm cleaning the badges (taken off of course) I always think it looks odd without them. Everyone has different tastes though, so in the end it's what you like

Balmorals look good with a badge. Put the badge on, throw on the balmoral, and let it sink in. It might be that you're just not used to it.

I'm not sure what JockScot's answer will be, but I in fact wear my Balmoral even when not kilted. Everyone in town and where ever I go, people think it odd actually when I don't wear it and ask "What happened ?"

. It always makes me laugh. They also say "Where did your kilt go, I hope nothing happened to it. I want to see you wearing it the next time I see you".

Thank you, 1MUNK3. I just happened to see a post by Jock Scot in another thread where he did say he wears a balmoral often whether kilted or not, so I guess so...

I happen to have a new navey blue suit and the thought came to me that it would look quite sharp with a navy blue Balmoral and red torrie up top, paired with a red and blue pocket square.
