Great photos, David. The Lady Helen looks as gorgeous as ever - and you scrubbed up well too!!

I have never been closer to Blackpool than driving past on the M6 some years ago - and I felt that was probably close enough, although Cleveleys looks clean, neat and tidy!

    Take care,
    Ham.

But a works dinner dance in BLACKPOOL?! Admittedly, there's not many firms having socials at the moment, but I think it might be time to look for another job!

    Enjoy, Graham.

    Steady on Graham...

Nowt wrong wi' Blackpool. Great venue to host a dinner dance in the winter time. No problem finding accommodation for everone attending and keen competition over pricing 'cause all the hotels and catering providers want your business at this time of year. The Stag and Hen Night groups that do go there are not coming to your function so where's the problem?

Blackpool is a great northern seaside town. Clean, friendly and making the best of difficult times. I'm sure the place will have a resurgence now that the euro and pound almost equate and people will not be tripping off to the spanish sun for their hols. The candyfloss and kiss me quick hat image tends to be perpetuated by people who've never been there or not been there in a very long time... It's changed drastically in the last 30 years. It's had to.
It's also very kilt friendly by the way... It should be with the number of Scots who visit in the summer. I have been kilted there on a couple of occasions and no negatives to report.

I only work part time for a well known car hire firm. We were at the Hilton hotel in Blackpool where we stayed the night-The company give us a car with petrol for the weekend & the dinner dance also, so I don't think its a bad firm to work for. Blackpool is great.

Even the brass monkeys were looking worried that day David! I used to live in Blackpool for a year and a half and found it so different than a tourist. I liked it in the winter as it was quiet. Having stayed there again on a weekend a couple of years back it is in such a timewarp. But hey, some people like that.

My apologies. I was obviously in error. My impression was that Blackpool had a problem with its sex industry. In 2003/4 they were trying to adopt a voluntary code to stop the sale of 'lurid materials' on the main seafront areas. In 2007, they were trying to adopt a 'good behaviour' code to stop the unacceptable behaviour of attendees at stag and hen parties. In 2008, Barnado's childrens charity raised the alarm that over 200 registered sex offenders were now living in the town. One children's charity, CROP, established itself there a couple of years ago to help provide support for women trying to break away from their pimps. In October 2008, Channel 4's Despatches programme ran an undercover expose (sorry) of the prostitution being offered through lap-dancing clubs. In a BBC item in November 2008, a spokesperson for Blackpool council confirmed that they had closed down seven clubs in 2008 alone for failing to operate within the law. Hmm?

    Cheers, Graham.
