Any idea if Cold Steel will sell me just the sheath? It doesn't come with the ceramic model.

All good points, your right... though not steel, this is still a weapon. I am sure cold steel would be happy to sell you a sheath for their "Skean Dhu" a phone call should suffice.

I own both the steel and ceramic composite model. The sheath from the steel does not fit the composite. ColdSteel does not carry sheaths for the composite knives. I made my own.

I wonder if you could remove the kraton grip and add your own scales. Those of you who have one, can it be resharpened? The price is certainly right.

Cold Steel used to offer a slightly more traditionally shaped sgian dubh called the Culloden. I have one and find it to be a great little knife. Sadly, they stopped offering it, but if you poke around the net they can still be found...

The steel version I rarely wear as a sgian. Between the almost 8" overall length and the thickness of the sheath, it seems a bit large for that purpose. I have done so, tho. The belt clip on the sheath grips you garter and does make for a secure carry. That said, the knife itself is wonderful. The blade is VERY sharp and tough, and I have cut all manner of things with it, and it is still as sharp as the day I got it, two years ago. The handle has a good feel and is quite non-slip. This is a real working tool, made in a traditional style from modern materials.

The ceramic composite does not come with a sheath, nor does ColdSteel carry one. It is the same overall length as the steel (7-3/4") but is much thiner and of course lighter. With a sheath I made from a piece of scrap leather, it works fine as a sgian. While the edge is not nearly as sharp as the steel, it is sharp enough for most purposes. I have cut rope, heavy cardboard, and a six foot submarine sandwich into individual portions with it. The latter at a group picnic when no one had brought a sharp knife in the utensils. It seems to be surprisingly tough. The ColdSteel website has video of their line of this kinives that is quite impressive. Can't beat it for $11.99.

I also have a knife from them called a SuperEdge, which is a nice little number that I also sometimes wear, because the blade is short enough that I can carry it into places one cannot carry a weapon. I have carried it into the Pentagon (not concealed, with security's knowledge)! The link is:
