I just got my first kilt yesterday -- a UK Mocker. Following their online directions very closely I ordered my 37" kilt with a 21.5" length. While the kilt was being shipped this way I waded through 225 pages of kilting Do's and Don'ts...I have to admit it made me a bit nervous about the fit of my kilt. When the Mocker finally arrived and I put it on I found that I'm fine with the waist size (a bit smaller would be good -- maybe after washing?) but the length is longer than I'd like. It comes to the bottom of my knee, a kilting "dinnae!" I've learned. BUT the tags that came with the kilt clearly state that it's designed to come "to rest roughly below your kneecap." Long story short, UK's online measuring directions will lead to your kilt fitting the way they planned on it. If you want different results you'll need to do some adjusting on your own. Next kilt, I guess.
