Watch fob

That's an interesting concept to put tartan and possiblely something like a clan badge on a watch fob.

Not necessarily, Ted. It's quite common among fraternal societies such as the Masons, Odd Fellows, Knights of Pythias, etc. The most famous example is the Elks Lodge, where many members wore elk's teeth as a fob.

Well, I guess when I have a kilt made, I could take one of the leftover scraps of my tartan, and put it on a fob locket etc. I like that because then you would have the tartan with you whether you are wearing the kilt or not. Perhaps with something a bit like a clan badge as well; there's some things that could be adapted for that with my tartan.

Looks like costume jewelry to me, but I wouldn't let that put you off wearing it. It looks cool, and should be right smart with your kit...

What I know is it came out of an estate, and looks to be old sterling although not hallmarked. Not pictured is a very attractive and handmade looking bit of chain, in the form of a bracelet. also has the appearance of sterling, although looks can be decieving. This piece is 1 1/2 inches in diameter. we'll see when it's in hand.

in fact, if you search ebay for watch fob, this type of thing is mostly what comes up. Tons of fraternals, medals for this and that, etc.
