I am hoping to NOT overdress as I have no clue if ANYONE else will even be kilted. I am going to this workshop alone and figured going kilted will be enough of a conversation starter as anything.
Another piece of advice- remember that the kilt is just another article of clothing. Wear whatever you would wear with a pair of jeans. Don't make a big thing out of it. I see threads with people agonizing over wearing sandals or the wrong type of windbreaker. It's not a costume. If you would wear your London Fog trench coat with a pair of jeans, then yes, you can wear it with your kilt. Relax a little about the whole thing. I wear mine with my work boots and an Iron Maiden t shirt, and it looks just fine. If you wear your kilt as if it's a costume, you will be percieved as wearing a costume.

And by the way- 2 things that struck me that I really like- you're wearing a saffron shadow tartan kilt (I love mine!!) and the sporran is very good looing. I really like black and navy blue with saffron.

I can totally appreciate what you're saying... but here's the thing I didn't mention earlier ... Other than being in uniform, Tartan Day and this workshop will be the first times being kilted. I don't mean to make a big deal out of it... just don't want to look like a poser, if that makes any sense... Kinda of like the guitarist who goes to buy a $4k Gibson Les Paul to learn on... granted it should be "to each his own" but I want to look like I belong in a kilt and just not not like I am wearing one for the first time.

Then my point is all the more relevant- wear like you would a pair of jeans.
