This is what I would figure. Hit and miss.. which is how garage sales are expected to be.

I've never found anything kilt-related at a garage sale, but I do wear my kilt when I am shopping at them. You never know, someone might have something that they'ld forgotten to bring out.

That was many years ago. I traded the cutlass for a brass barreled Ketland flintlock pistol.

I have never been to a garage sale but I do occasionally attend car boot sales.
Have yet to find anything kilt related though.

I got a kilt pin (for free!) from the estate of my ex-uncle's late step-mother. It's brass and made in the shape of a stand of 'pipes with ribbons flying. Originally, it was probably intended as a ladie's brooch, but I use it as a kilt pin, and if the weather's cool enough (to wear my half-plaid) this Saturday, I plan to wear it at the Loch Norman Highland Games.

Have any of the bretheren (and ladies too) found garage sales to be a resource of 'stuff', such as sgian dubhs, sporrans and such? I can see that many people wouldn't know what they had when it come to kilts and accessories.
I would love to find a beautiful sgian dubh on a table marked $5... ya know the ruby or amethyst in the stock, dated 1850..
there I go dreaming again.
I don't expect that kind of $5 deal on a knife but I am saving my money for a trip through a couple of Flea Markets in Scotland this summer. I'll be looking for attire and accoutrements to bring home. I understand there is a large open market in Glasgow on weekends so I'm set to spend time cruising. Also will look in places like Salvation Army. Last time in UK (24+ years ago) I scored a beautiful hand knitted Shetland Wool Antarex sweater I still own.

Incidentally - if anyone knows of other flea markets or "boot sales" held regularly around the Edinburgh/Glasgow area I'd appreciate hearing about them - either here or off line with IM's or AIM
