Garage Sales and Kilts (and accessories)
I was just going through some threads (and pictures.. I love pictures .. especially of sgian dubhs) and I was wondering ...
Have any of the bretheren (and ladies too) found garage sales to be a resource of 'stuff', such as sgian dubhs, sporrans and such? I can see that many people wouldn't know what they had when it come to kilts and accessories.
I would love to find a beautiful sgian dubh on a table marked $5... ya know the ruby or amethyst in the stock, dated 1850..
there I go dreaming again.

I think it highly unlikely.

As much as I feel surrounded by my kilted brethren, we kilties really aren't very common. So, a garage sale featuring kilt accessories is going to be equally (if not more so) rare.
However, you might have a bit more luck with estate sales, depending on where you are located. Just a thought.

you would think so... BUT... as a guitarist and musician, I find 'deals' all the time. Items that people don't know what it is, or just getting rid of something without really researching it's worth (and I don't mean to bring up the morals of not telling someone that the 1959 Fender Stratocaster they are selling for $200 is really worth $15k)
I play an amp made up of a $25 Fender Head and $50 2x10 bottom... and it's killer. I sing through a mic that retails new for $200 but picked up for $15 and has been my mainstay for about 10 years so far (wow... I just it's been that long)

I really think most of us scavange yard sale, thrift shops, estate sales, flee markets etc for all the "Good Deals" we can find.
My last great find was a hand knit Tam{Black} for $0.50.

One member got an L&M day wear sporran at a garage sale for $5 or $10 about a year ago. Deals are out there.

Look long enough,...and a deal will roll your way.

Best deal I ever found at a garage sale was an original Rev. War naval cutlass for $6.
