I would most certainly wear a kilt. I swing dance a little and would love to wear one while dancing, but never have a chance. And, yes, I would wear something under it. Black briefs would be my choice because they are dark and would leave a little more to the imagination.
Have fun and post some pics if you get them.

There is nothing like the feel of the kilt while dancing. Be kilted and be proud. (the skivvies are a good idea as well. Dark!)

And of course you'll have to post pictures of said dance.

Is this the Royal Stewart I sold you or have you got a new kilt now?

The kilt will be fantastic, of course.

Black skivvies, probably a good idea; no need in frightening the ladies.

I think Panache is on to something suggesting that you drop the PC jacket, but wear the waistcoat with a bow tie (you'll probably have it on from the gig, yes?) Still dressy and a lot cooler

    Definitely wear the kilt.

We usually manage to incorporate some fast spins into our Scottish Country Dances at some stage of a Ball evening (just get carried away with the music, usually). And nothing beats the kilt to do spins in.

As (some) others have said, I'd cover up though.

Having seen Panache and the F-H.C.A.G. swing dance many times, kilted (the both of them) I highly recommend it from the audience perspective!

    and..

Having been dragged out on the floor by the F-H.C.A.G. a couple of times when Panache was busy...though I by NO means dance at Panache's level....I recommend it from the participants perspective!

I disagree, if you go to a swing dance in a kilt it is your responsibility to ensure that Modesty is not forsaken.

A standard convention of kilt wearing is that for vigorous physical activity like dancing or athletics one take precautions to remain modest (black boxers or briefs are usually recommended.
Having danced a bit of East Coast Swing in the kilt, I have to agree with Jamie here. Your kilt will rise in the turns and spins, whether you have a kilt pin or not. In other words, it won't just be your business what's under your kilt, EVERYONE will know, and many will be watching to see. No need to put on that kind of display (unless it's that sort of crowd, of course)

#1 Do wear the kilt. Underneath, a pair of black boxer briefs, trunks, or even cycling shorts will prevent accidents. And being black, they help to preserve the mystery...

#2 So the rest of the band will be wearing tuxes, probably for the entire evening? If so, I'd change to your PC. Keeping the same shirt and tie, you can change in just a few minutes. This is exactly what I did recently for a benefit concert with a reception following.

Why wouldn't you wear the kilt? Of course you should, go for it!
