I was thinking of getting another Standard, and then I saw the new Economy line. They don't make it in Black Stewart though. I was thinking of getting the Economy, but I live in West Michigan, where it can get cold more than warm, and I worry it won't be enough material. If I do choose the Economy, I will surely post a review in comparison to my Standard.
I inspected my old line economies again after I got home today. They are much lighter and thinner than the standards. The pleats on mine are sewn down slightly, just not all the way to where the fell should be. But again for the money they are great knocking about kilts and definitely a step up from the thrifty. They were my first kilts and I highly recommend them to anyone who is looking for something inexpensive as a first time buyer/wearer of the kilt but wants the bells and whistles. Plus Jerry is fast, no jonesing!

If it fits in your budget, I'd say your wardrobe needs a SWK heavyweight. You're ready to try wool!

Now in Black Stewart---need we say more?

If only Jerry had the Leatherneck in a heavy weight... The standard I have is really nice, though, given that my complete collection consists of 2 standards so far.

I have a thrifty (Black Watch), 3 standards (Black Watch, Gordon and Nightstalker) and a heavyweight wool (Shadow Green). There is a big difference between the thrifty and standards - mainly the amount of material. The thrifty is being used this weekend to play softball in (ordered 14 for the whole team) - unregimented of course. But I'll be taking my wool one out because it gets pretty chilly in the evenings not too mention it's my team color. Pics will be coming sometime next week.

Actually, after reading this thread, I checked out Stillwater and noticed that they put up the economy kilts. Personally, I would spend the extra $30.00 for the standard just for the extra material you get. But that's just me....

Yeah, I decided I am just going to get another Standard. West Michigan weather is just not nice enough for something as light weight as the Economy. I am still not sure if I am going for the Black Watch or the Black Stewart. All of my co-workers who have seen me in a kilt say to go with the Black Stewart because it would be better on stage. I am leaning a bit more to that one. I think I may discuss it with my girlfriend because it is her family tartan and I want to make sure she is okay with it.

Okay...I bit the bullet. I just ordered a SWK Economy in Black Watch. I will post a review here as soon as I get it, or as soon as I can get to wear it. It will most likely come in when I am at work, so I am going to have to wait until Tuesday or Wednesday to wear it and give it a full workout.

As for what else is in the order...that's going in another post.

I recently ordered an SWK Economy in Irish National. I'll gladly post my impressions (and pics), but it's my first ever kilt so I don't really have a point of reference. The image showing the difference between the old Economy kilts and the new ones ( found http://www.stillwaterkilts.com/economykilts.html ) was what convinced me to upgrade from the Thrifty-Kilt to the Economy. I'm expecting it tomorrow, or maybe Monday.

Congrats on your first kilt. I certainly hope you enjoy it.

    Welcome to the rabble.

Finally undid the stitches and took some pictures today. I've got a sporran hanger coming too - I don't like how the sporran bunches the kilt under my gut.

It looks better with my checked shirt than I thought it would! It's comfortable, heavier material than I expected, and now that I've undone the temporary stitches it hangs and swings better.

    This'll be fun.

I know it's not as nice as a high-end wool kilt, but in my very inexperienced opinion, it's a nice starter kilt. I'm pretty happy with it. I think I might wear it out to the pub on Saturday to watch some footy!
