Its novel to see men wearing shorts for SCD, never see that in Scotland, not that you see many kilts either.
My SCD class is finished for the summer starts again mid October. I hope to go back again as it is brilliant exercise, but will be subject to finding a new partner as my last session's partner is leaving the area.
You do see shorts worn for SCD down here in summer in the South of England. Have tried it once but didn't like it. Even worse than trousers for getting twisted the wrong way (if you see what I mean). Much prefer the kilt, of course.

I was a bit surprised at your comment re partner. In all the clubs and groups I attend here the long established tradition is that you do each dance with a different partner. Even if you've gone to the dance with one partner, your wife, for example, you are expected to dance with others for most of the dances after the first one. There is a tradition that you dance the last dance of the evening with "your partner" too.

In advertising SCD down here we make a special point of saying that you don't need to bring a partner to join in. Is it really different in Scotland?

Oh, and we go on dancing through the summer down here. Not at weekly classes (they end in June) but at get-togethers, many in the open air sometimes on garden lawns or in parks.
