I've worn my original Sportkilt (Hawaii State tartan) for short fun races. It gets a lot of attention. Mine has the pleats sewn down, and it works fine for running. I wear a pair of light-weight, shorter, compression shorts underneath.
I wouldn't wear it to any race I was trying to make time in, and I couldn't imagine wearing it with a sporran. Just my opinion.

Sport Kilts have a concealed pocket at the top of the front apron for small things that you must have with you. That gives you a place to carry some small things like credit cards, driver's license, cash, without the need of a sporran.

I've played sports in my tank... but that's not advisable. I have no problem keeping up with everybody else in my Freedom Kilt. It's a cargo version, I just take the junk out of my (very roomy) pockets if I'm going to horse around.

If you run with a sporran, you better wear a cup.
