Here in the South, the white dinner jacket (or tux) is (or was) often seen during the summer months. If you are going to wear it with a Kilt, I would recommend going for the Military "mess jacket". I had one when I was in the Navy for super formal occasions (like embassy dinners), and I think it would look super with a kilt. Just be sure it is the proper length for use with a kilt. A formal sporran would be a must.
