I believe there are military jackets for Highland regiments that were white or light tan but they would be a very different cut than a white dinner jacket

A white mess jacket with a kilt would probably be okay, provided it wasn't made from some sort of polyester fabric. I have a white duck mess jacket that I wear with trews; I've tried it with the kilt, but found that it just didn't look right. It is really a case of too much white above the kilt, which tends to destroy the balanced look achieved with a black evening jacket.
So, like Panache, I'd suggest sticking with black.
I'd stick w/ black as well. Unless perhaps you were wearing a black kilt.
