Older members (and some not so old) will remember this politician as the female sidekick who succeeded Mrs. Peel in "The Avenger" TV show from the 1960-70's. She told the interviewer that her father was a commander of Ghurka troops in India in the 1940-50's, so she felt strong ties with this unit. That's why she went to bat so strongly for them.
Joanna Lumley is not a politician though, she is still an actress, but one who had enough passion about this subject to get involved, and enough determination to get the result everyone wanted. She is currently resisting calls to get her to become an MP!
