Oh man can I ever tell you about that!

whats good for a day of formations or drills ain't great for those long marches.

I had to, well not at gunpoint, march from Williamsburg to Yorktown for the Bicentennial, couldn't wait to get out of those articles of torture. The common shoes didn't have a left of right either, which didn't help. Better than barefoot which, was more than often, the case!

Well, I figure semi-formal and formal clothing should be comfortable rather than painful, so...

I've found several sources for genuin (not PVC) patent leather shoes, so there is some progress.

So far, I haven't found any patent leather evening pumps, but I have only just started.

Most of the shoes are Oxford style. Although, many bluchers are sold as Oxfords, so I'm not sure about some of those.

I think the shoes without the tongue showing, like Oxfords, would probably be fine too, but I had the buckle in mind.

I'll keep sorting through all the web sites.

    Ok, here we go.

I think JSMMACLJR suggested these: Brooks Brothers | Men | Formal & Luxury Shoes | Formal Pump with Grosgrain Ribbon Bow.

These are some that are in a lower price range: Carltons Rehoboth Beach - Sandro Moscoloni Black Patent Leather Formal Slip-On Pump Shoes
Men's Wearhouse: Formalwear | French Shriner Black Patent-Leather Formal Shoes

As far as I can tell, those are not the PVC finnish.

I haven't figured out buckles yet.

    Thanks, JSFMACLJR.

There does seem to be a range of options in formal shoes...

Could you leave the bows on the pumps for Highland attire?

    Thanks, that's good to know.

I'm looking over the different buckle options, and that might have to be a whole different investment for a tifferent time.

I just made myself a pair of patent leather buckle shoes and it was very quick and easy indeed. See the thread in DIY...

    http://www.xmarksthescot.com/forum/d...971/index.html

The buckle is quite small and I must say the shoes are as comfortabel as before I "converted" them.
