I was here for the Gathering too. I wore my Ike Jacket because I didn't have anything else. I did find a black argyle style w/vest (has shiny silver buttons) I can use during dressy to formal occasions but I also wanted a less dressy garment for day wear when one might wear a suit. The black I found has a wonderful soft hand to it - not at all like the rougher baretha (SP?).
Anyway - I'll keep looking. I have 8 day's left here in Edinburgh to do some shopping. Maybe something will turn up.

Actually barathea is (or at least it should be) a super-fine wool. If the fabric is course, it isn't barathea.
Good luck finding what you want, at the price you want to pay!

When I was in Glasgow last year I bought a braemar tweed at Hector Russel.
They had to ship it to me as they didn't have the size and colour that I wanted in Glasgow it had to come from Inverness. That said remember taht their are 3 different jacket names dependent on the buttons and cuff. I think that argylle and braemar are more common than the more simple look fo the crail. That said good luck on your quest in Edinburgh. Try Nicholsons on the royal mile.

I thank you all for your commiseration with my dilemma. FWIW, I was not far from the mark when I jokingly suggested the Irish Elves were hard at work somewhere. It turns out that there really is a central location where a great many of the kilt shops order their hire garments. It's is somewhere in UK (imagine that!) and it's called Etiquette Kilt Hire. This pearl of knowledge was passed to me by a sympathetic store gentleman who tried to fit me into an off the hook jacket. A 46 is too small and a 48 shoulders are too wide.
MacMillian - I tried the Glasgow Moss establishment - I got nowhere - they don't hire and didn't have any Kilt attire in the store. Strange. It was almost as if I had interrupted his day - talk about a cold shoulder![Mad](http://www.xmarksthescot.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_mad.gif)
Tuesday I'm off to Edinburgh. Hope springs eternal

They don't tell you where they are and they don't say how much their stuff costs!
