Your look like you've got it put together. I too prefer long sleeve shirts with ties, and especially if I'm wearing a jacket. But, I also live just south of you in AZ, so it's acceptable given the summer heat.
I think that the color of the hose is just right and works well with the stripe in the tartan.
The only suggestion that I would make is to loose the tie from under the belt buckle.

Yes I'd go with 'don't tuck the tie in' but it is nice to see a well tied windsor knot. Only other thing I'd suggest, keep an eye on where your belt keepers are and make sure they stay next to either side of the buckle. You have a great, smart (but not formal) look. Finish it off with a pair of well polished black leather shoes and your hot to trot. Nice one!

Brice,
First off your outfit is fine as is.
However if you are looking for further refinement I can't say it better than XMTS' resident King- Rex Tremende did .

I'd also go for lighter-coloured hose, personally speaking.
Other than that, you look fine 'n' dandy!

Purely on the colour - I think that the hose are just too dark with a white shirt and that really nice tartan.
Lighter hose toning with the tartan would bring things more into balance, and if you chose green or blue green it would - just possibly - be an idea to wear all brown leather. The sporran would be fine, and I think a dark brown belt and shoes would simply be more in tune.
These are just suggestions for greater harmony rather than criticisms - that outfit is perfectly fine - it is just that you could tweek things a little and raise your game.

As always, winnow the advice to suite yourself.
The kilt is either too long and/or the hose worn too high. Other than that, it is fine just the way it is.
About the only thing I would say is that I dress more formally to church than do 90+ per cent of rest of the men in the parish. I was just brought up that way. So I never wear my kilt to church unless I have the Crail jacket or Braemer on (winter only)

Personally, I would do the following:
- change hose to a cream, oatmeal, or a blue or green that complements your tartan
- change ties to a blue or green that complements the tartan
- if you've already gone with blue or green hose, match the tie to the hose
- untuck the tie and use a tiepin or tack as necessary
As for the shirt sleeves - I've seen enough well-dressed men in short-sleeves and ties that your shirt looks fine to me.

I would ignore these suggestions. Please don't buy cream hose; you'll look like you belong in a pipe band. The color you're wearing looks fine. The color of the tie looks great with the kilt, which was the original purpose of your post. And, you've already addressed the tie issue; that is, you didn't know you had it tucked in.
I think you look great! I would lower the hose slightly; that's the only thing I'd change.

Didn't mean to do that. Thanks for the heads up!
