winter wear

i live in Michigan, and as the locals will tell you, it gets cold in the winter.

i do not own a kilt yet, so being unable to experiment myself, i was wondering how an outfit of a heavy coat, hose and kilt will hold up to below freezing temperatures.

personally i would love to wear a kilt in the winter.

I can stand extremely cold temps in a kilt provided the rest of me is appropriately dressed. The exception to this is during very high winds, but that seems obvious. In fact, winter is probably my favorite time of year to wear a kilt.

personally i would love to wear a kilt in the winter.

I live in the outer Hebrides we get a bit of bad weather and snow here and a hell of a lot of wind. The important thing is keeping the hands, feet and head covered and you will be fine stout boots and good hose. Warm jacket hat and gloves. Most heat is lost through the extremities and head is about 25% of yer heat loss. Stick with a heavy 16 + or more weight fabric and a good 8 (I prefer 10 ) yard kilt.

You will be fine.

I live in central PA and have worn my kilt out on nights when the temp was in the single digits. No problem on the lower half but I did need a heavier jacket. I agree with JRB, if it is real windy you may want to reconsider

The only cold I noticed when I wore my kilt in single digit weather was when I stood still. When that occurred, I noticed the cold wind on my knees, but if I kept moving I was fine.

Doesn’t get in to the single digits here in Tennessee, but does drop below freezing at times, and I don’t get cold. I think I read somewhere that you will stay warmer in a kilt than pants. The idea was you aren’t separating your legs by fabric; therefore you retain more of the body heat between them.

may i ask why winter is your favorite ?

I simply prefer the cold of winter to the heat of summer. For me, a chilly, blustery late autumn afternoon is just about perfect!

I agree with Bruno. Good hose, hat, mittens. Here is where a nice tartan rug or plaid would add to your comfort. Dare I mention it? Flannel briefs are nice. Enjoy and welcome from Massachusetts.
