Interesting story/stories. I've been asked, what's going on, is it a special occasion? Or something similar.
One June day in Gatlinburg TN, (highland games are held there in mid-May), I was asked, why are you wearing a kilt today? My response, "it's Sunday". That's all I said, she accepted that as an answer.

At the grocery store the other night my boss (who is incidentally also my husband) and I were buying Ice Cream after a particularly grueling rehearsal. Its his company, and his rules, and the rule is: The guys in the kilts are the tech crew, so naturally we were kilted. Someone asked us what the event was and we answered "Rehearsal for a concert with Carol Channing." It took them a few minutes to process, and then talked to us about kilts and the upcoming concert. The way the woman was watching us, I think the guy is going to find a kilt under the Christmas tree (if she can wait that long to put it on him)
Cheers

I had a woman at the farmers market last Saturday ask, "Do you play today?" It was painfully early in the morning and all I could muster for a reply was a confused, "Play.....?"
Hours later, I realized that she probably meant rugby since I've seen several kilted rugby players here in town.
