    Funny question!

OK, I've been asked many questions whilst in a kilt but this was good! Actually two of us were asked, Celtic Cowboy & I were when we had pizza last Friday with a couple of new friends.

Aaron (Celtic Cowboy) and I have been there before kilted and we got the usual "nice to see you both in your kilts" greetings from our server. After we finished and had just stood up from the table behind us to leave... I hear... excuse me.. did you both perform somewhere?

As I turned I saw a nice typical FL retired couple at a table and the lady was asking the question. I will also add that the husband became embarrassed and rolled his eyes.. ;)

    I said, "I'm sorry, .. perform?
She asked, "did you both perform earlier this evening?"
I replied, "I'm sorry, I don't know what you mean by perform?"

This silly banter went on for a minute or two.

Then her husband rolled his eyes again a said something like, "I think she wants to know if you played bagpipes somewhere this evening."(?)

    I said "no, I'm sorry. "

She then said, I bet you're real good at the bagpipes...
Hint I don't play the pipes.

I began to crush her "stereotyping" and said, "I don't play the pipes and neither does my friend here."

She said, "but you're wearing kilts?"

Aaron began to try to explain it and then....

Our friend Colan (pr. like Colon) explained, "wait, wait, wait,.... the kilt is normal clothing for these guys."

She said.... "Oh?" You both look very nice!

Honestly, she was very nice.... she just had not been exposed to regular kilt wearing. Now she has!

On the way to my father's 87th birthday my son and I stopped into a Chuy's restaurant. One of the patrons, seeing us kilted, came over and told us how wonderful it was to have Pipes at funerals and what a great service pipers performed.

    That's funny

The only question I've ever been asked by a stranger is about piping. If only we had as many whitty answers for that as we do other questions!

BTW: the closest I get to piping was playing trumpet in our school band, but that was over 15 years ago. Still, I did have a little drone...

At this point I am LEARNING to play the pipes. Long before now, I have gotten some form of Bagpipe comment. During the high school years, myself and a friend were usually in the same tartan kilt, he played the Bass Drum, and I carried it on my back. "Do you play the Bagpipes? .. Jim would answer, "No, were the drummers that keep the pipers in time." Whilst alone kilted and asked by someone in Jeans, plaid shirt and boots. "Do you play the pipes? ... No, do you herd cattle?.

Many more, but they sort of pop up and are soon forgotten.

Several years ago, I had a very tall student in some of my classes and he was 6'10". We made him a shirt that read: "No. Do you play miniature golf?"

Got that one today; gentleman asked me when and where I was playing. He seems really crestfallen when I told him I just wear the Klilt. He asked why, so I told him I am a minister; the look of befuddlement was priceless. Kind of like "aha!..... wait, what did he say?" A couple of times when I've said this the response has been "What doe that have to do with wearing a Kilt?" To which I respond "The same thing being a piper does, just because you do one doesn't mean you do the other.".ith:

Being a tall girl, I can relate! People always assumed I could play basketball, but the reality is that I'm a horrible basketball player.

People are always trying to make one fit into a box within their own preconceptions. For some, wearing a kilt only fits within the bagpiping box.
