The modesty snaps on a UK are at the hem, front and back center, kind of hidden in the back by the pleats and on the front on the inside apron. I have one UK with modesty snaps, and to be honest I've never used them. Just completely unnecessary for me - since I'm never in a situation where I would need them (I'm not up on ladders much or would I care about modesty if I were).

Sounds like you are thinking of a contemporary kilt for your first. You can check out the list of advertisers here, and there's also R-Kilts - the owner is a participant here, but I didn't see him in the list. Most of the advertisers here skew towards traditional, but there are a few who offer more contemporary styles. Which is best is hard to answer, since what's best depends on what your requirements are.

You might want to hang out here for a while to look at photos and follow discussions about people's attitudes toward the various kinds before making your mind up. There are also some good threads in the archives about which kind to buy first. And by "first" I mean once you buy one it's hard to stop.

So welcome.

Regards,
Rex.
