Oh, my, the white hose dilemma again. Cheez it, the "trads" are coming!
The generally held belief in the old country is that white hose were propagated as standard and stylish by the kilt rental business as they were cheap, easy to get, and went with virtually every color tartan our there (at least thay didn't clash too badly) as well as the traditional wedding white shirts. Historically, many say that only footmen from older regal carriages and doormen wore white hose, and that a true gentleman would not be caught dead in them as they were a sign of "lesser means". You will find here on xmarks a longrunning gun battle about the propriety of white (not cream) hose with powerfully held beliefs on both sides, and others who don't really care and just wear what they think looks okay (me included). Read, listen, question, ponder, understand all points of view, then make up your own mind. Nobody is going to shoot you over the color of your hose (unless you are in east LA).
Oh, and don't even think about asking about flatcaps.

Peoples feelings about wearing them it kilts is another story!
I personally feel they are just as historic and traditional as the Tam, Glengarry or Balmoral, and quite appropriate for casual and daywear kilted outfits, depending on the event, venue, climate etc..
