    So often asked

Again while kilted at the weekend, I was asked on several occassions whether I was commando or not. There always seems to be this perpetual fascination by so many people to a person in a kilt. I suppose when the day arrives that no one wants to talk to you or pass compliments on what you are wearing then it may be time to stop wearing the kilt. I believe we all like the attention the kilt brings as well as the enjoyment of wearing it. Funny thing is that it is about 50/50 from both sexes that want to know if you are wearing something under your kilt or not. My theory is that we have a multitude of guys out there who are very interested in someone wearing a kilt, wanting to talk to you and would love to wear the kilt but need encouragement to do so

That's the most common question I get too, especially from women. Personally, I think it lends an air of mystique and excitement for most people. Even if the fellow wearing the kilt is not that good looking, the fact that women will be thinking about what's under the kilt (or not) can't help but excite them a little. It seems to be a positive thing, so I don't mind fielding those kinds of questions. I just try to answer it in such a way as to retain the mystique.

This happened in Scotland? That's kind of surprising to me.

I think you're right about the guys asking. I've always thought that their curiosity is driven by what they think it would be like to wear a kilt themselves, and probably draw prurient pleasure out of the idea of going regimental.

    Regards,
    Rex.

I have got to agree 100%. I have been asked by males far more times than by females. I have noticed that females often assume that all kilties are regimental, as if because they are a woman they are in on the secret.

The last time I got asked, it was a few weeks ago in Tokyo, by a couple of very proper-seeming middle-aged Japanese ladies.... in church.

I told them that a lady doesn't ask, and a gentleman doesn't tell. They didn't seem to think much of that answer. Maybe I need a better "stock answer" for the weird streets of Tokyo...

LOL the question always amuses me... I have done everything to question why would a man ask another man if he is regimental.. to flashing leg and tell the ladies...and asking them.. What do you think?

It's funny to see guys back down real quick, and the ladies smile like the Cheshire Cat.

I have found if you usually approach it with humor, most will play along.. but there are times, when some just have to know... so they get to see for themselves....

At the Marine Corps Birthday Ball this year, late in the evening, the Commanding Officer of 3rd Bn. 25th Marines (in full Mess Dress) and his wife were walking out of the hotel to their car. I was standing outside chatting with a few of the Marines who had stepped out for a smoke.

About 20 paces out, the CO's wife turned and walked back to me and said "I have to ask, are you traditional?"

The Colonel's face turned bright red and I heard him say "I don't believe you just did that".

LOL. I just told her that's between a man and his kilt.

I always try to preserve the mystery. I had a young lady ask me a while ago (I use the word lady to give her the benefit of the doubt) and I responded that as a gentleman I would never ask her the same question. She replied," a thong." And proceeded to unzip her jeans to show me. I managed to walk away from this encounter with her question still unanswered.

When I get asked what I'm wearing under my kilt I usually say, "Socks and shoes".
