That has never happened to me, but if it did I would consider it a bit suspect. Did this person say where they got your information in the first place?
Also, my surname does not start with "Mac" either, but that does not change anything. my ancestry is still Scottish. The name comes from a tower castle and surrounding lands in Kinross, Scotland.
