Music for sale?
I have just received an email that purports to come from Xmarks the Scot selling music, yet when I looked at my private messages, here, there is nothing. Is this legitimate? Is this intended? Is it OK? Is this some website bandit on the loose? Just wondering. Mods, if you want to move this to some other place ,I quite understand.

Jock I believe this is a spammer. One individual of the forum reported this to me last night, as I am no longer a moderator I could do nothing about it. Perhaps the best thing to do would be to report it to a moderator, just forward the message onto one of them I'm sure they will look after it as soon as they can. Sorry I can do no more to help.

This spammer does not show in our member list so I will have Steve Ashton look further into it.
Please delete the message from your PM box. Any new messages, please use the report post feature, which is the little red triangle in the top right of the header with an "!" inside.
Thanks,
Brian

Brian, last time I looked, there is no message in my PM box, so nothing to delete, the only messege arrived on my own email address. Hope this helps.

Ladies and Gentlemen,
Thank you for reporting this case of spam.
I first noticed this person at 2:00am my time and about an hour after they had registered. I found that they were sending out PM's and emails to our membership.
I am very sorry that you were bothered by this person. Most times our software catches these people but in this case one person found a way to get past our safeguards.
As soon as this was discovered I immediately banned this person as a spammer.

Just an fyi on something that may be related...
I've been receiving large quantities of emails claiming to be from an administrator of Hotspotairsoft.com . The site itself sells airsoft guns and equipment (like paintball), and I have purchased from them in the past...which is probably how my email address was obtained. The email address used does in fact appear to come from that website, but the admins of that site claim it is not from them. I tend to believe them, as the emails are ads for adult material. Anyway. They've gotten so many responses from customers who are experiencing the same thing, that they've put up a disclaimer on their website regarding the issue. Anyway, just a heads up.

Ladies and Gentlemen,
There seems to be some confusion of what actually happened this morning with this spammer.
This person registered as a member. Our software placed them in a moderation queue so that all their posts would pass through our Forum Moderators before going to the open forum.
However, this spammer did not try to post. They simply used an automated program to search our members lists and started sending automated messages to anyone who has any contact information listed. If you listed your email address when you registered you could be sent an email.
If there is no email address listed you could be sent a PM.
This is not a breach of our security and we caught this person very fast. They were then banned as a spammer within an hour of registering.
Please remember that we catch on average 5-6 spammers a day trying to gain access to our site and send unsolicited bulk messages to or through our members. We, and our software security, usually catch them. This one got through and I apologize to all of you for that.
