Sadly, there is not a bicycle shop on the Alameda anymore, and you're right, San Jose is different. I noticed a sign on Race Street today for Slough's, which may have been the shop on the Alameda in the '70's; I think they are all gone except for that poor sign.

I just want to note, for posterity, that Jock Scot has actually put in writing, that the bucket hat will be just fine with him!
Be well,

P.S. The plus fours would have taken less time to alter, if I hadn't allowed my darling husband to try it himself first!

My dear lady, I fancy that there is a spot of selective quotation going on, that is not quite what I said. Is it?

First, you look smashing Jamie (aside from that tartan flat cap). Please, buy a tweed cap.
Secondly, and especially now that Rex has shown a mock-up photo of himself in an old book, I enjoyed the irony of him saying Jamie had lost himself in time (given the great mustache and beard Rex sports from a time almost forgotten).

Well, George's father was Edward.
As for look-alikes, there's George's cousin, Nicholas. I can hardly tell them apart, but yes, they both had splendid facial hair.
Regards,
Rex.

What a grand thread this has been!

It must be one of those trans-Atlantic misunderstandings, must it not? But I am not at all sure that I actually told you to wear that infamous bucket hat.

I'm just saying that if you must wear a flat cap it should be tweed and not tartan.
