Tartan Hose or Solid Color Hose?
I have noticed in some pictures that some men wear there hose in their tartan colors. For night time and dress up situations which is considered proper attire, the cream color with tartan flashes or hose of your tartan color?

Can we just close this thread NOW, before it blows up into yet another brouhaha?
dtandthekilt there's a difference of opinion on the issue, and in the not-so-distant past it has blown up into acrimonious debate. I recommend using the search feature for "hose" and "diced" and "formal" and such words. There's lots and lots of material here.

I respectfully disagree. A forum is a free exchange of ideas, and dtandthekilt has asked a legitimate question. Whilst I would also suggest searching the forum for other threads, as long as we can be civil about it, there is no reason why this thread should be closed at present.

To answer your question simply
Either work with formal wear.
Tartan hose are traditional, white/cream hose are a more modern take.
Wear which ever you like
For formal events it is worthwhile to make sure that your hose (be they white/cream, diced, tartan argyle, or solid colored ) are high quality or even hand knit if possible.

There is an extreme difference of opinion on the issue.
I, personally have a wonderful pair of natural wool colored (cream/ecru) hand-knitted hose done for me by the lovely and talented Ms. String from this forum. I wear them a lot when I need to dress up. I think they are wonderful and I like them a lot. I wore them to dinner for Valentines day at a very "tony" restaurant.
However, there are others who feel that white or cream hose at any time at all, and all the moreso in a more formal setting, is an absolute horror.
IMHO, and this is just me, I'd say wear what looks good to you, and spent maybe three to five minutes worrying about what is "correct". Look at pictures on this forum, look at your budget and purchase (or make) an intelligent decision accordingly. Respect other peoples views, understand that no matter what you do, SOMEONE will think you've made a mistake, and carry on.

Alan,
That may be true, but even though I may disagree with you on white hose, I would never call for a thread to be shut down simply because of it.
The truth be told, I have several good friends who are expats and who wear white hose. The subject is never come up in conversation, and I believe in being agreeable whilst disagreeing.
Yes, there are some strong opinions regarding the "correct" hose for formal attire. But if wearing a kilt is truly about "freedom", then all POV's must be respected and should be allowed their say.
Regards,
Todd
