As it is a Wednesday I don't think I will be kilted
Paul if you think Glasgow is bad imagine what coatbridge is like during the st paddies day street party after all its little Ireland here
my misses is from Ireland and she was shocked at how we celebrate it here the fact its a huge street party with folk from Ireland over doing the dancing and music also some irish mps i guess its good for the shops though
its mostly just a excuse for sectarian ejits to get wrecked i reckon these days here regardless of there Irish heritage

I went to Coatbridge last year... was 100x worse than Glasgow! Was full of "plastic paddies", as you say many of them attempting to put a sectarian edge on the event. Often you'd hear a couple of large groups of neds sing... not singing with the Irish songs but shouting parts inbetween lines such as "God bless the Pope" and "Celtic, Celtic".
Earlier in the day it was great seeing bands perform, and a Green Teachta Dála opening the ceremony, with speeches from the local wannabe-plastic paddy, Scottish unionist politicians. It was quite hilarious.
We went for lunch and a few drinks along the road, came out about an hour later and there were swams of Celtic tops and people waving Celtic flags. We stuck around for a bit longer but the atmosphere had changed dramatically as the "Celtic youth" appeared.

    N. Ireland is in Ireland anyway. And Belfast has a massive street party for St. Patrick's Day.
Perhaps you should think before you post.

Great Idea! I really need an excuse to wear a kilt to school during the regular schedule. St. Patty's day is a great day. Since it is a Wednesday, I can wear a kilt on the actual day and then again on the weekend when it is observed in our town parade.

    Big Mikey,

I like it. Where might I ask did you get that fine kilt from?

As for me I hope to be in a Saffron kilt and a Green sweater. Considering the weather in Michigan I may also have on a winter coat and gloves as well. It will be my first kilt wearing experience outside the house.

I'll be in band kilt the Saturday before for the AOH St Pat's parade. On the 17th, probably not, unless I have a job by then and can afford to go to the KY kilt night Jeff (Forrester Modern) proposed.

Alright, laddies. Several of these posts have crossed the line. The mod staff is looking at them right now.

In the meantime, think before you post, stay out of politics, and treat each other with respect. If you have something to say that doesn't actually address the original poster's question, it is probably best left unsaid.

I'll be wearin' the Irish National. However, if my tank is done at that time, in my clan tartan, MacDonagh, I'll be showing it off.

St. Paddy's Day is a ways off, but it WILL be here sooner than you think. Oh, and when I was a kid, it was (still is) a VERY big deal in our family, as a religious day and a family gathering. Unfortunately it's taken on a whole different meaning to many folks...like drinking and partying. Not a bad idea, mind you, but it should be a reserved kind of day.
