not to resurrect an old thread, but has anyone thought about a desert 'chukka' style boot? like THIS

I know it's a classic shoe, and would look great with puttees and a kilt cover, but what about casual wear? And if so, would you go hose up or scrunched down with this lower style boot.

This height seems a bit problematic for me. It seems too low a boot to scrunch hose down, but too high a 'shoe' to go hose up and have it look proper...

or am I just overthinking this?

That's the basic style I"ve been looking for recently, though these in particular have too few eyelets for my comfourt. I just recently bought a similar style of Clark's (see previous post, three eyelets and I added a fourth). On the two occasions that I've worn them with the kilt it's been hose scrunched down. Being of a simple and relatively classic styling, I personally think these shoes will also work well with the traditional hose up with flashes etc. The weather has just been hot enough to boil a monkey's bum on the separate occasions I decided to wear mine...so I was going for comfourt.

Not quite sure how I missed your post, since it basically links directly TO chukkas, sorry about that.

I do have a similar feeling about the eyelet issue. It feels like these shoes are 1 or 2 shy of where they should be. But MAN do they look comfortable. I'm not a big brogue fan, so am looking for something casual and comfortable that's a bit less aggressive looking than my doc martens 8-eyes.

Yeah, dude. The Clark Roars I just bought replace my 6-year old Doc Marten 8-eye boots. Love 'em but the soles wear out too fast and caint be resoled. With the Roars, and I'd bet with the desert chukkas, too, there's no metal eye, so your local shoe repair guy can easily punch additional holes. I added a fourth to my Roars no bother. And it looks like there's plenty of room on the desert chukkas as well... I don't care for the white soles myself, but there's no accounting for taste, eh wot?

    Cheers,
    Wesley
