That is pretty much the description of the "Kilt Police" in my experience! I've hardly ever met one that was wearing a kilt. They usually don't admit to never having worn one, they always tell me theirs is at home or something, like they didn't know they were coming to a Celtic event when they left the house today!
Other than the heat, that looked like a nice day. It's aways fun to share in your culture with like minded folks.

Great pics! Looks like a lovely day was had, at least until the rains came. But I certainly don't envy those Roman soldiers! No way that armor can be as cool as a kilt, in every sense of the word.
But do you happen to know if the Asturies Celtic Society is connected to Asturias, Spain?

They are one and the same. One of their members, who is from Asturias, came over to discuss horn scrimshaw with some of the Rangers (who I was with that day). He showed us one of their cultural journals with photographs of scrimshawed drinking horns. He was dressed in his traditional clothing and very interesting to talk to.
To be honest, I'd never heard of the region until now, though I had heard of Galacia and had met a few people from that region.

Warning: Irrelevant Aside*
The primary title carried by the Crown Prince of Spain is Prince of Asturias.
I now return you to your regularly scheduled thread.

Wonderful hose, made from cloth on the bias in the old manner.
Kilt worn a bit on the short side, which was quite popular back then.
Kilt with a rather smaller sett-size which is also period correct.
Hose, kilt, and waistcoat of different tartans, also the 18th century style.
And he's taken the trouble to get chalice droned pipes, which I appreciate. It stands out like a sore thumb when reenactors spend huge amounts of time and money getting every tiny aspect of their dress exactly period correct, but then play a modern instrument!

Unfortunately, I can't see the individual you are referring to (computer doesn't allow images) but since its one of Mael's photographs it sounds like its Peter Walker, the Appin Regiment resident musician.
Peter plays a number of 18th century tunes on 18th century instruments (some are originals). He is very knowledgeable about the music and instruments and how they have evolved to our modern day tunes and instruments.
As for his attire, everyone in the Appin Regiment tries to do the same, though it sometimes takes a bit of time to get it all together. We are always asked what clan tartans we are wearing and why they do or don't match. I once had a tartan spotter spend several minutes trying to figure out what tartan I was wearing. He was relieved to discover it was a non-descript tartan which I selected for exactly that reason.
