I have decided to push this to the media for a wider base of more public opinion on the matter, and a greater likelihood that Troon will take the issue more seriously if it comes from multiple different sources simultaneously. The media may bite, they may not in which case it will simply be a tempest in a teapot. We shall see. However, what has become clear to me through all this is the fact that if I am the one pushing the story out to the media sources it will likley be seen as self serving and media seeking by me, whereas if the kilted and golfing community push this out to the media it will come across more as a united movement rather than an individual in the wilderness crying for attention.
So if you feel strongly about this, as I do, feel free to write to your local media, by email, surface mail, telephone, through their websites, etc... to whoever you think might be interested in hearing the story and passing it on. It either gets picked up or it doesn't, but we shall never know until we try. I will be writing select media myself, but please feel free to jump into the fray--- more voices speaking in unison makes a louder chorus than a soloist singing into the lonely wind.
If I can figure it out I will try to start a Facebook page for this cause as well, as has been suggested by some fiends there.
Again, thanks for all your comments (pro or con), ideas, and support.

I realise that Jeff, its trying to understand the "enemy" with their petty rules and I suspect that the Caddy Master(is that correct title?) may be a very local to the course with very local attitudes to the kilt.I don't know, I am only surmising.
I am certainly not impressed by the Club Secretary's weasel words in his email to you, but not surprised as an official letter would show that they are actually taking the matter seriously. I have yet to be convinced that they are. However give them time to think about things(a couple of weeks---I am serious!) before jumping towards the press. Nothing will get them(Troon) to dig their heels in quicker than "pushing" a traditional British establishment club in their ivory tower, I kid you not! I don't think that Troon will give a tinker's cuss what other clubs do, that is a false trail, as the UK is full of:- "------well if that is what other clubs do, that is fine for them and it is not our concern, BUT it is not what WE do!" It is that mentality that you are up against.
Rules are rules and providing they are clear, concise and there for all to see and not open to local interpretation and we can live with that. Nevertheless and most crucially, any query from a guest should be attended to, promptly and courteously in person by a club official on the spot at the time. If we, in the end don't accept that ruling, well OK we have to accept them for what they are, but at least we do not leave feeling too aggrieved. But you having to deal with something courteously, that has not been dealt with properly in the first place must be exceedingly frustrating for you. I still would council patience for a while yet.
I am damn glad I am not a golfer!

Knowing Jeff, he will not let this issue rest. Lord knows I wish he would. It is consuming way too much time and energy that could be spent elsewhere!
I love you honey but give it up!

Artificer wrote (in response to my question): “Women's legs are nicer to look at? ”
Well, men (myself included) enjoy looking at women’s legs, but women also like looking at men’s legs (as testified by several of our female members at X Marks).
Modern-day fashion requires women to remove the hair from their legs (thank heaven we males don’t have to), but it actually doesn’t do much for them.
There are few things uglier than a woman’s leg with stubble, and it doesn’t feel great either.
Most women’s legs are just as eye-catching with a little bit of natural fuzz than hairless, especially if the hair is blonde or red.
Regards,
Mike
PS: Okay, you were in jest and I haven’t responded that way. But this is a point that irks. I hate seeing advertisements for women’s razors, or for hair removal by electrolysis.
The fear of the Lord is a fountain of life.

The only real point that has been raised and is grounds for some contention is that the rules as posted do not state that trousers must be worn on the course. The rules do not actually spell out the two different takes on the rules as seen on their website and as interpreted by two individuals that show a clear difference in the interpretation. If the rule is trousers only, as stated by the secretary, it should be in the rules. If it is that kilts are prohibited and all else goes as said by the caddiemaster, then that needs to be in the posted rules.
Simple
And I sincerely believe that is all that Jeff is really asking.
Slainte,
Steve
As my divets travel much further than the ball, I will unlikely be visiting Troon either.

I hear that. When I golf, groundskeepers cry.

My entire golf experience consists of 9 holes played with a putter, so I don't have a lot to contribute, and won't be causing any consternation among the officials at Troon, but I must say I have thoroughly enjoyed following this thread.
