Wearing Full-size & Miniature Medals: military & civilian attire
Please note that the uniform regulations of all branches of the United States military stipulate that miniature medals will only be worn in the evening. During the day, when in uniform, if medals are worn, only full size medals are to be worn.
The conventions for wearing medals with civilian attire are unique to themselves and universal in their application. They are as follows:
Medals are worn on the left breast of the jacket. The top edge of the medal bar should be approximately 1-inch below the button hole of the lapel. The top edge of the medal bar should be parallel to the floor. The medal bar should be centered on the lapel, and may overlap the lapel if necessitated by the number of medals on the medal bar. During the day only full-size medals are worn. In the evening miniature-size medals are worn.
Remember: Civilian attire isn't a military uniform, and military regulations concerning the placement of insignia, medals, etc., on the uniform do not apply.
