Kilted Wedding Jacket Advice Needed
Greetings everyone. I will be part of a wedding party in early April this year, and I don't really own a formal outfit. I'm pretty sure that I'm just going to go to Arizona Kilts and rent a Prince Charlie, but I wanted to know if anyone out there has ever worn their kilt with a regular tuxedo jacket?
This is the jacket that the groomsmen will be wearing in the wedding just so that you have an image to compare to.
Again, I'm pretty sure that I'll just head over and talk to Graeme at Arizona Kilts, but if anyone has any pictures of them in kilts wearing tuxedo tops and not a PC or anything like it, I'd be interested in seeing what it looks like.
I'm guessing that typical tux jackets hang too low and cover up most the pleats, probably making it look weird, but I'm still curious.
Thanks!

No pix here, but your intuition is spot-on: it won't look good.

Ayin,
How much is the rental?
It might be worth it to look at just buying a PC.
Rocky sells them for $300

If you suspect that you will need a tux equivilient at least once a year then I'll bet it is a worthwhile investment.
Other options could be finding a good used tux with tails (and waistcoat) and having them turned into a formal kilt outfit, this is what I did and my formal rig has served me well for a the last few years.
Cheers

I've used Arizona Kilts before for my brothers wedding, and Graeme is a great guy.
I agree with you Jaime that purchasing a PC is the definite best idea, however that is definitely not happening from now until April.
Girlfriends birthday next week
Estrella War two weeks after that
Highland Games the week after that
St. Patrick's day after that
My son's birthday right after that.
There is no way that I'm coming up with $300 from now until the wedding with all this stuff going on.
Like I said before I don't think the regular tux jacket will look good, but I'm still curious and would like to see the combination.
If anyone owns a tuxedo jacket, would you mind modeling by putting it on with your kilt, taking a picture so that we can share the photo with people here? It'll probably end up as a "Kilt Don't" but as long as it's educational then it's ok.

When I finish the kilt I am making right now, sure. Single or double breasted jacket?

Not my thing
Well I suppose it would look something like the following - or just a wee bit shorter...

Not really my thing... but hey..

At ur most recent Nor Cal Rabble Burns Night, thomsec showed up in the Uniformalwearhouse single button Eton jacket and the backless three button vest...
and it looked VERY nice. He'd gotten some nice pewter cast diamond buttons in different sizes to dress up the jacket and vest and it looked fantastic.

A number of people have commented about the inappropriateness adn naivete of wearing a 'waiters jacket" as formal attire. Truth is, that while I wrote the first post about "formalwear on the cheap" I had never actually SEEN one of the Uniformalwearhouse Etons, though I own and wear their three-button backless vest. When thomsec told me that was what he was wearing I was quite impressed, he looked *great*.
Is it a Prince Charlie? No, it's a different style, much like a spencer. However with the addition of the pewter buttons I think you can forge ahead on a budget and not worry in the slightest about committing a kilt "don't". Just make SURE that you order the SINGLE BUTTON Eton, and not the three-button, if you go this route.

this xmts link might be useful. the original poster of the thread bought a retired rental jacket and it seems to have worked out well for him...
