The biggest factor is personal preference. Do you want your kilt to be darker or lighter in the back? Is there a particular color you want to emphasize?

However, if you did not have a preference, left to me I'd pleat to the second option; as I said in my email it does present a cleaner look

Congratulations, Terry, on the new kilt (and the jones!).
Personally I find that Matt’s recommendation makes for a stronger appearance – mostly red around the back, with the other colours revealing in the stride.
But either way, it will be a marvellous-looking kilt.
    Regards,
    Mike

I've kept going back & forth on that question Matt, but having the night to think it over, I think I'll go with....(drum roll please)....option #2 - the lighter, red field

...p.s. - Matt, I'll get the re-measurements off to you later today, I have to first take my daughter to the doctors (nasty head & throat cold).

    Thanks again everyone!
