Here's an interesting thing. The flag carriers that are being worn by the flag bearers are being worn on different shoulders. The old colours over the left shoulder and the new colours over the right.
All the flag carriers that I have seen (and the one I own) were designed to be worn over the right shoulder. That way they would not interfere with any medals being worn.
Does anyone have any insight on this?

Not quite. The first photo you've quoted here, where the two officers in Coatees are marching with the Colours extended in front of them are indeed wearing flag carriers. And they're on their left shoulders.
In the second picture, where the Captain is adjusting the Colours on the drums, while the Major is standing behind him with the other Colours; neither of these officers are wearing flag carriers. That white belt, over their right shoulder, is a sword carrier. You can see them on the first two officers as well.
Good eye for detail though! Most probably wouldn't have caught that. I apologise for correcting you - photo analysis and interpretation are an old habit to break. That, and I know these particular uniforms fairly well, seeing as I used to wear one...

I don't mind being corrected that's what asking questions is for.
The Captain has his hand in the way, so I can't quite see the detail. Is the sword carrier joined to the belt like a Sam Browne or is it separate like a baldric?
This is really fascinating - and fun.

Very interesting...thanks for the links. I'm curious though - I'd always understood that flags/colours should never touch the ground, but noticed that they did so during one part of the ceremony. Are they allowed to do so only during certain proscribed situations, or have I misunderstood how they are to be handled?

Yes, there are certain ceremonial situations where they are lowered, and actually touch the ground. Outside of those specific ceremonial situations, however, they most certainly may not! So, in a general way you're right, but there are certain specific exceptions.
