Welcome to the forum M'nM's! It's good to get your perspective on the topic.

Yeah...prom dresses. girls really have the short end of the deal on Prom dresses. Someday you'll probably be a bridesmaid, too and the same grief applies there. The dress you wear to either of those occasions MUST be bought, and is unwearable for pretty much any other event in your life. If your girlfriend who asks you to be a bridesmaid has the sense to pick out bridesmaid dresses that are actually wearable at something besides a wedding, then tell her that you love her!

Guys are lucky. Most guys can rent tuxedos for Prom or Wedding. I only owned a tuxedo ever, because I'm a musician and I needed it to play in concerts. But that was a black tuxedo anyway, and I didn't wear black to either of my HS proms or my wedding. More or less the same thing goes for the kilt. A guy can buy a kilt and rent the prince Charlie, shirt, shoes and so on. The kilt is great, he can wear it at al sorts of things, if he owns it. If he rents a kilt, then he's not even out that much money.

You lasses definitely get the short end of the stick, here.
