We'll be doing 18th century costuming with a private group, and I know he'll look a bit off with the facial hair, but he's doing it as a favor for me so I'm definitely not going to force him to shave unless he wants to. He really doesn't want to shave unless a job makes him.
Also, he has a pituitary tumor, and letting his beard and 'stache grow is one of the ways he's found to keep an eye on hormone levels.
