The problem with modern NFO is that it's not. A great percentage of it is patrolium based. Brake fluid etc. It soaks into the leather fast but is NOT all natural like the old days.

When I make saddles I may use a bit to begin with but then tel people to use other oils like even Virgin olive oil. darkens the leather less and doesn't rot the thread as quickly. Poeple that oil most time oil too much. It makes the leather squishy and sloppy.

Care for you leather just enough and then stop. Leather should not be oily just oiled and then used and used. Don't over care.

Neats foot oil does have a tendancy to "bleed" onto clothing. One trick that has worked for me when neats foot oil is used, is to let it "settle" into the leather for a bit, and then paint over it with the white of an egg. The white dries to a soft sheen, and the oil does not come through it.

You and me both, I started using it 40 years ago on baseball gloves and have used it on everything from boots to belts. Never a problem.

Well, I invite you to have this conversation with saddle makers and oil manufacturers. The definition in the industry of "Pure" is very broad.

I said that other oils would work also. I also said that I used it initially and then opt for something else when it matters.

The bottom line is use what works for you and don't put it on you clothes. Good day.
