    Smile The Royal Wedding

Maybe I'm in the minority here and I know that I am just blowing off steam but I have a gripe. The royal wedding has been all anyone in the media can talk about for weeks and it's getting on my nerves. Now that it's over the news networks are spending hours analyzing it and talking about it after the fact. I have always had a code that I live by as far as celebrities are concerned; I don't know them, they don't know me, I wish them the best but I don't care about thier personal lives. I care about how they perform thier jobs be it music, acting, governing, ect. I don't need to know who's dating who, who's getting married, who's adopting what kid, or who got arrested. If it happened to someone in my own family, I would care but as it stands the royal family are complete strangers to me and I don't care about them any more or less than any other complete stranger. I wish them well. Now lets cover some REAL news you 24 hour media giants.

    Thanks for letting me rant.

This is really the first thing that popped in my head. And then when I read a rant by Dan Rather about how irritated he was by the news coverage....well, you get the idea.

Thanks for letting me get it off my chest guys. It has just become so sad that a once noble profession, journalism, has become so tabloid. It was like the other week when news over the civil unrest in Lybia was preempted by them going live to the beginning fo the Lindsay Lohan courtroom appearance. It just seems like they focus on news stories for only as long as they can make them seem juicy or scary and then when they wring the soul from a story they leave it's ruined carcass by the road and forget it ever happened even if it's still going on in favor of gossip or contrvied scandal. I know it's all a money game but I feel that journalists should be held to a higher standard than the almighty dollar. Once again thanks for the forum.

I suppose it depends on where you are, but today, in the UK, there wasn't a bigger story. If American news channels report it, there is nothing I can do about that.

My experience of watching news coverage in the US about the UK was that they only seemed to be interested in royal stories. Such big events as this are, however, relatively rare and hence they make the most of it.

I have to put up with football and snooker and all sorts of other events in which I have no or little interest as and when they occur. One has to live with it.

Now it's over the US media can return to its usual programming about complete strangers closer to home.

I know what you mean. I'm constantly hearing chatter about this talent show thing called American Idol and people seem surprised that my husband and I don't watch it or other popular reality TV shows. Even the local news channel constantly covers that sort of thing. I don't understand how it rates as news, much less any of the other celebrity gossip. *shrugs* Ah well. I rather enjoyed the break from the norm and the excitement building up to the event, especially since I didn't hear any of the gossipy stuff, but rather more of the sort that just gets your interest up and informs.

You could do what I do and just not watch TV. :-)
