Royal wedding inivtation: Dress
The upcoming wedding of William and Kate - The invitation states: " Uniform, Morning Coat, Lounge Suit". I'm curious as to what is the Mourning Coat equivalent when wearing a kilt. Would a person wear a jacket or doublet with Inverness flaps, Jabot, Cuffs: perhaps a jacket and gray silk tie?
It's not often we get to see such formal daytime events. A great opportunity to see the correct, accepted formal attire for military, kilted and non-kilted folks.

I'll venture a guess and say that a charcoal-colored or lighter grey Argyll jacket with tie (tied in a Windsor knot, of course) and all the rest of the kit would work perfectly well. No lace, no jabot, no doublets.
...and hopefully no one will wear a mourning coat to the wedding.

Given that it will be held in London, far south of the Highland line, I suspect that you won't see any Highlanders in kilts, except perhaps members of the RRS while on duty...

Bingo!
But of course there are the Sir Sean Connery types who will wear the kilt.

In this case, a black kilt jacket and waistcoat, white shirt, tartan hose, silk necktie, silver mounted sporran ( or mask ), black brogues ( although buckled could be worn ).

This being an internationally attended event, in the home region of the kilt, perhaps it's wearing should be reserved to those of the Highlands. There was a thread a while ago about appropriate kilt attire for a U.N function, this has the same feel to me.

London is hardly the "home region" of the kilt. There are a great many gentlemen from the Highlands who NEVER wear the kilt south of the Highland Line. They might wear it to a ball ( the Callie comes to mind ), but that's about it.

To clarify, if I may, the "black kilt jacket" Sandy. I take it you mean the black, silver buttoned, barathea, argyll?![Smile](http://www.xmarksthescot.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif)
Would I wear this highland attire should I be invited? It depends a bit on what context I was invited, I could , but consider the guidance on the invitation. So on balance and assuming I had no uniform to wear, I would wear a morning suit.
