Thanks, folks. It is good to see that my point of view is not as unique as I had thought. Guess it is just that many of the people in my clan group are much more (how shall I put this?) financially mobile and educated than am I and as such tend to dress a certain way which reflects that. But to each his own...

"... more financially mobile", maybe, but education is more than likely not a factor. What you wear is a personal preference, and some people, regardless of their level of education, are incapable of forming a personal opinion. You wear boots because you want to wear boots. Some people wear brogues because they want to wear brogues, and some people wear brogues because some one told them that they should. Don't apologize for doing what makes you feel comfortable, and don't worry about conforming simply to fit in.
