Any black or very dark brown sporran seems like a safe bet to me, depending on what else you're wearing... I'd leave any and all hair or fur at home.

You're forgetting the sporran's second most important function- Keeping the front of your kilt clean! I couldn't tell you how many times my sporran has caught food spillage that would have made me cry, had it hit my kilt.

Don't worry, I was trying to work out what calibre the spikes were!

Awesome! We have actually been planning on making something similar for CGR. Lots of spikes, studs and chains. A "Metal Sporran".

Oh good, let TurboKittie know when you figure it out

Of course a sporran like that wouldn't work, IMHO, with a more traditional outfit and/or setting:

The enlisted man's plain leather sporran is a frequent choice of mine for 'pubbing' - and they're cheap:

But it would totally work when, after you've told a wee lad that the sporran was originally armor to protect you when sword-fighting, he hauls off and kicks you one in the 'nads to see if it really serves the purpose.

I have one of these too. It is cheap, in cost. It's not a great quality piece of attire, but it seems to have held up so far, and if it is damaged during a hike, or a spilled drink at the pub, it's no real loss.

The other bonus is the leather strap, which seems to be accepted by concert security staff much more readily than a chain strap.

My only real complaint is that it wasn't avalable in black. I wonder how easy it would be to dye it?
